Dozing Off – Vol.1

(-The Fantasy Guys…DB)

As you might have guessed from the oh so clever title, this is my first list of sleepers picks. Just like the “Do Not Fear vs Steer Clear” post, I will give 5 sleepers at each position, maybe some bonus ones. I plan on releasing about two more volumes of “Dozing Off” in the next week as well.

Quarterback – Chad Henne, MIA – Sure the Dolphins are all about the run with the Wildcat and all that but we are talking about sleepers here, guys you can get very late and not worry that you made a bad pick. Henne in 14 games last year threw for over 2800 yards and 12 scores. With the huge addition of Brandon Marshall I do see Henne’s numbers going up but not by a crazy amount. 3400 yards and 20 scores certainly isn’t out of the question in my opinion for the Michigan QB.  Target him as your 2nd QB in about the 13th round.

Running Back – Michael Bush, OAK – He is available on average in rounds 6-8. DON’T BE SCARED TO DRAFT HIM! I’m seeing too many people pass him up in opportune draft slots because they either don’t know him, or don’t trust him. Listen to me very clearly, Oakland’s running game has been M.I.A for a very long time, they have tried to use stopgaps all over and it has not worked. Darren McFadden is always hurt and once the Raiders understand the value Bush has and the potential he possess he could become a very formidable back. Plus he is a big back, has averaged 4.6 yards per carry and should get all the goal line touches.

Wide Receiver Mike Williams, TB – No one is picking the Bucs to win the Super Bowl. Long gone are the days of superb defense and a bulldozing running game. Cadillac Williams has been through enough “stalled” jokes and well not much is bright when it comes to Tampa Bay football. Someone has to be a playmaker on that squad…right? Mike Williams will be that guy, and all signs out of camp point to him being their #1 option with guys like Mike Stovall, Sammie Stroughter and Reggie Brown playing behind him. Yes, he is a rookie but he has tremendous upside and did great when on the field at Syracuse. Hopefully he doesn’t fall under the same spell as the other Mike Williams out of USC did when he entered the league.

Tight End – Zach Miller, OAK – Another Raider makes my list simply because someone aside from Chaz Schilens and Darrius Heyward-Bey need to catch passes from Jason Campbell. Miller is a huge target, especially on 3rd down and in the red zone. Last year he caught 66 passes for 805 yards and that was with Jamarcus Russell throwing to him. Now with someone who is much more accurate, Miller could move up to top 10 TE production and you can draft him after the 14th round. In 2009 Miller had six games where had over 60 yards receiving, three of them being 96 or more yards.

DefenseALL OF THEM! – Defenses are so unpredictable when it comes to fantasy that the point differential between the best and 20th ranked defense isn’t all that dramatic, only 74 points. Don’t cry if you do not draft the Jets, Ravens or Eagles defense. You can still get a great defense with the 2nd to last pick in your draft, don’t lose any sleep over defense.
